Judy Stiles: Author Discussion
Newsmakers Rewind: History on TV
Joplin Historical Neighborhoods Museum is excited to welcome Judy Stiles to discuss her debut book, Newsmakers Rewind: History on TV, featuring key moments in local history captured through television interviews.
For more than three decades, Judy Stiles welcomed interview guests to the TV studio at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin to share stories that affected national, regional, and local news. The programs provided comments and quotes often not found elsewhere. They showed how interviews are more than just stories of the moment, but a way to preserve history.
Highlighted interviews go back in time to reflect on many topics. Congressmen starting with Gene Taylor discuss national concerns and state lawmakers beginning with Richard Webster talk about regional issues. Joplin mayors including Donald Clark and other city leaders share local dreams. Interviews also feature Hollywood with actor Dennis Weaver and others, and interviews look at the news business with national and local journalists. Missouri Southern’s growth is highlighted by people who played key roles in its history and athletic success stories.
As Stiles says, “Everyone has a story to share,” and you can catch many of them here.
